Looking for RPG Players

Greetings! After a brief hiatus the blog is getting more active though it will more general now than just the discord league.

This particular post is to look for players for a L5R RPG campaign. Starting with the basics (so the Beginner game Topaz Championship) and then moving where we wish.

I don't mind GMing (though its been a while so I may be useless) but am equally happy if anyone else wants to do so. Essentially I need to find three hardy souls to continue.

When?

Open to discussion but I currently am looking for a weeknight from around 8 gmt to 10:30 gmt (UK time) on Tuesday or Thursday.

When Starting?

When the party hits size of three players. If a member drops mid-campaign then we will finish that campaign before recruiting a replacement for the next. Three keeps the party large enough that a single player wont have pressure to always be doing stuff , prevents long delays in large Skirmishes and reduces GM overhead - all helpful when people are learning a system.

How frequently?

Though weekly would be lovely the larger the group the harder to co-ordinate so initially lets look at two-three times monthly. More frequently would be great but we will see how the group wants this to run

Do I have to be experienced?

Nope. Just willing to have a go. As a basic owning at least the beginners game would be useful but even that is not insurmountable. What I do not want though is people who have played or GM'd the beginners game or have recently listened, or viewed, podcasts of the same. Meta gaming can be fun but in a linear adventure like the beginners campaign having one person (or more) who knows exactly what to do when actually decreases role playing possibilities.

What sort of game will it be?

That will depend on the party but as a GM I prefer the slower narrative style to the more power-game style. As an example a player is attacking someone he rolls 5 dice and gets seven successes, four strife and uses two opportunity for a crit

Power style

'I have five bonus successes and am going to crit him with my opportunity'

Narrative Style

'I've done well Masako furiously  attacks repeatedly breaking down their resistance. She then feints to the left allowing her to slice the ronin in the opposite side by using the two opportunity for a critical hit. She is also starting to lose her temper and is snarling as she fights'

So I am after players who are happy to narrate their actions and not

'what stance are you taking'    - 'air'


How do you roll dice over a meeting room?

We will be also using discord for the dice bot and will be able to see the dice.

For those unaware you roll your dice

!roll 3w 2b    (this rolls three white and two black)

then choose which you are going to keep

!keep 1 2 5     (this would keep the 1st, 2nd and 5th of the above dice roll. These then appear again in a seperate group)

then roll explosive successes - if any kept

!add 1w   (this would add 1 more white dice to the kept group.

if you were being really detailed you could then re-keep if you were not taking all the explosive success values.

this all means the result on the screen is easier to understand/explain.

Character Selections?

This group will start with the FFG beginner box characters for the Topaz Championship and follow up adventure (around five to six sessions I think) and after that the group will have to roll up full characters.

Connection?

The game will be played over the free meeting platform appear.in This is a browser based platform that requires no software or expense on your part. What you will need is a reasonable internet connection, a microphone and webcam so you, and the other players, will be visible to each other.

I am considering casting the campaign dependant on how it goes. Might wait until we have a little more experience first though.
